IS 200 Introduction to Library Skills

Information For Faculty: Instructions for Administering the IS 200 Intro to Library Skills Assignment

FOR FACULTY:  Instructions for Administering the IS 200 Library Skills Assignment 

You are welcome to assign the IS 200 Introduction to Library Skills as an out-of-class assignment for your students to complete on their own. 

If you prefer to have them complete the assignment in class, you're welcome to reserve the LIFE Lab in the library for your class' use.  To reserve the Library LIFE Lab, please email Phoebe Maa

Equipment needed: Projector, instructional laptop, and speakers. The LIFE LAB is equipped with projector and speakers.  The library will provide 15 tablets for your students to use to complete the assignments.. 

Before class:
Schedule your class in the LIFE LAB  and reserve tablet devices by emailing Phoebe MaaPlease provide at least 24 hours notice of your request. 

During class:
1. From your instructional computer, visit http://montreat.libguides.com/IS200, and instruct students to open up this link on their devices.  
2. Have students click and complete Step #1: The Library Skills Pre-Test on their devices (10-15 minutes). (They will complete the pre-test online via  Google Forms. Results will automatically be sent to the librarians). 
3. From your instructional computer, click on Step #2: Watch Tutorials. Play each video for the students to view (20 minutes)
When finished viewing videos, have students click and complete Step #3: The Library Skills Post-Test on their devices. (10-15 minutes). (They will complete the post-test online via Google Forms. Results will automatically be sent to the librarians). 

After class:
Librarians will receive and grade the Library Skills Post-Test, and provide you with your students' scores.
